Department of Pharmacology has the excellent infrastructure for training MBBS students. The students are trained through didactic lectures, practicals, seminars, quiz, tutorials and Computer Assisted Learning besides regular examinations followed by discussion. Regular symposiums and seminars are also organized. A special department training to the students is imparted for best presentation of the answers during the examination.
Students are given wide opportunities to develop communication skills which are considered very much essential for medical profession. In addition to regular examination oriented training, regular programs on recent developments in this area are conducted to update the knowledge of the students with the help of experts in the subjects from within India and abroad.
The course content is updated every year based on the changing requirements. Small group attention to the students is imparted. At the end of the training program in pharmacology, the students shall be able to understand the nature, mechanism of action, side effects of drugs. Information regarding Cost-effectiveness, Pharmaco-economics of the therapy is also imparted to them so as to enable them to provide affordable therapy to the patients. The department has two laboratories viz Experimental laboratory and Clinical pharmacology laboratory and a Department museum.
Now a days there are restriction on the use of animals for student demonstration and use. Considering this, the department has made arrangements for audio –visual demonstration for several experimental models as per MCI guidelines by establishing Virtual computer lab through softwares. This is first of its kind replacing animal experiments.
